Rug Care Guide
General cleaning
We recommend that you vacuum or sweep your rug regularly to keep it clean and to prevent the pile of the rug from flattening where it is regularly walked on. If you have purchased a shaggy rug we would recommend that you shake the rug or vacuum it using a nozzle attachment due to the longer pile of these rugs. We do not recommend the use of powerful vacuum cleaners with a strong suction on 100% wool and shaggy rugs as it may loosen the yarn. If possible, use a lower setting when cleaning these rugs. Most light dirty marks can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
The life of your rug can be extended by using a stain guard spray, designed to protect the fibres from staining and makes it easier to clean spills.
The DirtTrapper and Wash & Dry mats are designed to be machine washed and regular washing will only enhance their effectiveness. DO NOT use fabric conditioner when washing these mats though as this will prevent the fibres from working properly.
Do not machine wash or dry clean your rug unless the label on the back of the rug instructs that you can do so
Stains
We recommend you purchase a protective spray for rugs that are to be in a high traffic area such as a living or dining rooms.
Spills should be dealt with immediately. Blot liquids with a dry absorbent cloth or white paper towel. NEVER RUB THE STAIN. Some stains may be cleaned with a very mild clear detergent and lukewarm water or a good carpet shampoo. Avoid excessive moisture or wetting when cleaning the stain. Dry the rug on a flat surface.
If a stain cannot be removed you should seek specialist cleaning advice. Avoid harsh chemicals as they may damage the rug. Do not machine wash or dry clean your rug unless the label on the back of the rug instructs that you can do so.
Shedding
Shedding of the pile yarn is a natural characteristic of all wool rugs. Shedding will usually calm down and lessen after the first 4 – 6 weeks of use. Shedding does also occur to a lesser extent with some of our acrylic tufted rug ranges. A shedding rug is not defective and as such will not be accepted as a reason for returning goods as faulty.
